Shadows
Animated short film | Spring 2021

ABOUT SHADOWS
Shadows was made at The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) by a talented team of six 2D animation students, over the course of a year (2020-2021). Its style was inspired by Japanese animated works, and the film takes place in Japan by a shrine and a rice field.
Our film's story is a metaphor about growth and transformation - in order to experience meaningful growth, we often must struggle and allow dark shadows to engulf us. We depict this idea in a simple way, through a young child and a flower.
Synopsis
While exploring a shrine withinforest, a four year old girl discovers a magical flower. When large shadows suddenly cover the shrine and follow her, the flower begins to die. She becomes determined to outrun the shadows into the sunlight in order to save it.
She soon comes to learn that shadows can be overwhelming and you can try to outrun them, but they can result in beautiful growth if you allow them to transform you.
